The other side of Oman: The Blueroom Project’s Fam Trip to the Dhofar region

Alejandro, CEO of The Blueroom Project, and María, Managing Director, have recently travelled to the Dhofar region to experience its main attractions first-hand and continue working on positioning Oman among Spanish travellers.

The itinerary made it possible to explore some of the region’s most representative landscapes, whose beauty is completely different from the image usually associated with Arabia, with green expanses, temperatures of 25°C and spectacular mountains. The programme included excursions to natural sites such as Wadi Darbat, Tawi Attair and Jabal Samhan, as well as historic sites in Dhofar such as Taqah and Mirbat.

The trip also included days dedicated to the desert landscape, with a stay in the Rub al Khali, the so-called Empty Quarter, and a visit to the archaeological remains of Shisr, linked to the ancient city of Ubar.

Through visits to Al Baleed, part of the complex declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and to Wadi Dawkah, they discovered the historical and cultural legacy of this ancient incense trade route, incense being one of the region’s best-known products. The stay in Salalah rounded off the trip with an insight into local life, including the Al Haffa incense souk, the tropical fruit and coconut markets and other places of interest in the city.

Beyond its best-known attractions, southern Oman offers a unique combination of nature, heritage, desert, coast and culture, establishing itself as a particularly diverse region with an identity of its own.

This trip is part of the work The Blueroom Project is carrying out together with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, with the aim of continuing to deepen knowledge of the destination and presenting the Spanish market with a more complete picture of its tourism offering.
