Madeira has positioned itself as one of the safest and most demanded destinations to travel during the summer of 2021, due to the containment of the pandemic. In fact, it has been nominated as the safest European destination to travel in 2021, according to the list drawn up by the European Best Destinations (EBD), which has assessed a series of aspects to grant this recognition: for example, the set of measures applied by the region, specifically, through the “Madeira Safe to Discover” program or the “Clean and Safe” Tourism Certificate in Portugal, staying in a green zone with one of the lowest Covid cases rates in Europe.

Another reason of the success of this destination this summer has been the result of good air connectivity, with direct flights from the main cities of Spain, Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, among others, and the increase in the marketing of the product between tour operators and travel agencies in the country. The results of the summer campaign for visitors to Madeira has been a success with an occupation of practically 100% of the hotel beds in the archipelago.
