The island of Madeira closed 2025 with a positive tourism performance, welcoming 2.55 million visitors and recording a 6.7% increase in international tourism. Spain has consolidated its position as the seventh-largest source market, with more than 64,000 visitors, within a context of market and product diversification.
Golf tourism has emerged as one of the year’s key highlights and a strategic pillar for the archipelago. Portugal was named World’s Best Golf Destination at the 2025 World Golf Awards, while Madeira received major accolades, including World’s Best Emerging Golf Destination. In addition, Santo da Serra Golf Club was awarded World’s Best Par 3 Hole, and Funchal had the honor of hosting the Golf Business Conference in 2025, as well as the European Golf Course Owners Association (EGCOA) Congress.
This momentum is reflected in the figures: golf rounds increased by 9.5%, reaching nearly 80,000, driven by predominantly international demand and a growing presence from Mediterranean markets such as Spain. The economic impact of golf rose by 14%, generating €4.1 million for the region.
This growing interest in Madeira not only as a European beach destination, but also as a host for sporting events, reinforces its positioning as a multidisciplinary destination. The Macaronesian archipelago showcased this vision at FITUR 2026, strengthening its brand as a competitive destination with high added value.
With these results, Madeira reaffirms its position as a diversified, competitive, and rapidly expanding tourism destination, offering a solid value proposition based on quality, sustainability, and a focused strategic approach.
