After July, when tourism in the region reached record levels, with 1 million overnight stays, the first time this number has been recorded per month, the tourism sector continues to be a determining factor and is an increasingly important part of the islands economic activity. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Made up of four groups of islands, two of them inhabited (Madeira and Porto Santo), and the other two not inhabited (Desert Islands and Wild Islands).
