Once again, Thailand is consolidating its position as the leading Asian destination in the Spanish market. Spanish travelers prefer ‘The Land of Smiles’ among all the Asian destinations. In sum, 189.018 Spaniards travelled to the country during 2019, according to data provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand.

This, in turn, is translated into a 3.92% increase over 2018, which marks a new record for the number of Spaniards visiting ‘The Land of Smiles’ annually. In this context, Spanish visitors who are attracted to Thailand continue to increase, in relation to the profiles of other countries, whose numbers have shown a more moderate growth.

Thus, Spain is among the top 10 countries that issue more travelers per year to Thailand, followed closely by Denmark and Israel. Spain is in eighth place on this list, led by Russia, a giant that emits more than one million visitors a year.

During 2019, ‘The Land of Smiles’ focused its tourism promotion on the new products available to travelers. Among these products, its commitment to the LGBT segment in established destinations such as Bangkok and Phuket, as well as new proposals like Koh Samet.

In parallel, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reinforced the new activities available in the capital and expanded its offerings with unknown destinations among which were the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat to the south, Nan to the north, or Trat to the east.
